As easy as 1, 2, 3
Spread Easy Strip generously onto the surface using a pure bristle brush. Leave on the surface to work through the layers. Usually between 2-20 minutes. Re-apply if it dries out before it has penetrated all the layers.
When Easy Strip has penetrated all the layers of paint, scrape off as much as possible. TIP: Slightly round the edges of your scraper so it doesn't gouge the wood. Use a knife to clear paint from awkward corners.
Re-apply Easy Strip and scrub the surface with grade"1" wire wool. This removes any stubborn areas and really pulls the paint out of the grain. It will be easier if you scrub whilst the surface is still wet and turn the wire wool regularly when clogged.
When stripped, we recommend the use of our fantastic Wood Reviver, Part 2 of the Advanced Paint Removal System. The Reviver does two things in one, it neutralises and flushes out any remaining stripper left in the grain and also returns natural oils back into the timber to bring out the natural patina or colour of the wood. The Reviver also removes that milky residue left behind after using clogged up steel wool.
Part 3 is the Wax Polish. Dry the timber after using the Reviver and apply the Wax Polish sparingly with a cloth, fine grade "0000" steel wool, or a clean shoe brush for detailed work. Buff to a shine before it dries to leave a silky satin finish to the timber.
Repeated application can be made at least one month apart to build up the protection and sheen. This wax polish has a high melting point and a hard glaze finish, it won't dry out like oil finishes and will not discolour the wood. it is suitable for use as a floor polish.
A bit about coverage
Coverage is the hardest question to answer, but it is the one thing that everyone wants to know, so I will answer it by giving examples of coverage we have had from the product EasyStrip. The real answer is that coverage depends on many things, the thickness of paint, the type of paint, and of course....the user. Please follow instructions most of all let the stripper do the work for you. In some cases this will require patience, but this will save you time and money.
Examples
- As a general rule we allow 2 litres per door, even for thick paint. The trick is to be patient. Layer the stripper on good and thick, then leave it for about 20 minutes. When you come back it will be soft like butter and come off easily with a scraper. The average door is just about 4 square metres so that's $21.25 per square metre based on our 2 litre container and only $11.25 based on our 20 litre container!!
- The window on our homepage used 2.5 litres of EasyStrip and had at least 4 layers of paint. Its a big window as you can see from the dimensions given and amounts to about 2.5 square metres. Doing the maths that's about $33 per square metre based on the cost of a 5 litre container.
So you can see that each project is different and there is no "rule of thumb". Please don't be fooled by brands that make bold statements.
